Ichthyostega eeedb7a028 OutputSlot: recast the proxy BufferProvider to use the Connection directly 
Reaping the benefits of the preceding refactorings, most of the complex
wiring within `OutputBufferProxy` can be omitted, and the proxy calls
can be delegated directly to the actual `Connection`

There is a catch however: we need to create an additional pathway
to feed the frame-number information into the `BufferStore` backend.
