Ichthyostega 76dbb980b5 BufferProvider: more testing and refinements of the heuristic 
Seems to work now roughly as expected, so that the next layers
of functionality can be built on top. It seems impossible
to determine the viability of this whole approach without
taking the full buffer memory management into use with
a real-world load scenario.
